About the Survey
The Cornerstone Undergraduate Admissions Survey was distributed to the top 100 national universities and the top 100 liberal arts colleges across the United States, as ranked by US News and World Report 2015 College Rankings. The goal was to collect current and detailed information about the effect of social media and online searches of applicants on the college admissions process at competitive schools.
The survey examined whether undergraduate college admissions officers searched for or otherwise sought out information about applicants online during the past two admissions seasons, 2012-2013 and 2013-2014. Furthermore, we sought information on the prevalence of this practice, the tools and platforms used for these searches, the focus of online searches, and how the results may impact the admissions process for an applicant.
