One particular aspect of the survey sought to answer the important question of “What motivates an admissions officer to conduct an online search of a student?” The most common reason, cited by 63% of the population who answered the question, was a desire for clarification of an aspect of an application.
So if you really want to show a college that you care, consider following them on their social media. They’ll appreciate your interest in their institution, which is an important factor in the college admissions landscape. And you’ll benefit from the opportunity to learn more about the college. It’s a win-win!
It’s also important to be conscientious about what you may post about a college under your consideration. Increasingly, colleges search for times when a mention of the school or school hashtag turns up online, particularly on Twitter or Facebook. So be sure to practice positive posting as schools can have programs set up to notify them when they are mentioned online.
